Staying Adaptable: The Key to Easier Parenting

One thing that has made life so much easier with our two girls is staying adaptable. From the moment Clo was born, we made adjustments that worked best for us rather than sticking to what society says a home is supposed to look like.

In the beginning, our living room became our home base. We set up her pack and play right in front of the couch and pretty much lived in that space. We napped on the couch next to her, ate there, changed diapers there, and just spent time together. It was simple and it worked.

As she grew and started crawling, we baby proofed the living room and even swapped out our couch. At first, we went without one altogether and used floor pillows along with a foldable and durable floor cushion. It gave her the freedom to move safely and we all adapted together. Once she got steadier on her feet and had better control of her body, we introduced a low couch. It was another small shift that fit our family's changing needs.

Adapting to each new season of her life made everything flow so much more smoothly. The truth is, there is no right way to set up a home or raise a child. Society pushes the idea that things have to be done a certain way, but honestly that is just a bunch of noise. Do what feels right for you. Trust your instincts. You know what works best for your family, so lean into that and let everything else go.
